"Loss prevention professionals around the world colletively breathed a sign of relief with the release of a study finding that global shrink decrease by 5.6 percent between July 2009 and July 2010.
The study attributed this significant decrease in global shrink to increased spending on loss prevention adn security measures. This year was the first time in three years that retailers increased spending on loss prevention.
"It highlights the importance of continued advancement and improvement of loss prevention programs, as reducing theft is key to the success and growth of retailers' businesses" said Professor Joshua Bamfield, executive director of the Centre for Retail Research and the study's author.
